EDUCATION FOR MINISTRY

"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same spirit, there are a
variety of services, but the same Lord, there are variety of activities, but the
same God activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation
of the Spirit for the common good."
1 Corinthians 12:4-7

Education for Ministry, affectionately known as EFM, is a program of theological education.  Students enroll one year at a time for this four-year program.  We follow the academic calendar, and we meet every Tuesday at 11:00 AM and end at 2:00 PM.

EFM covers the basics of a theological education in the Old and New Testaments, church history, liturgy, and theology. We debate the text, when necessary, and
we are not deterred by doubt.

The seminar group is the nucleus of the Education for Ministry program.  A group consists of six to twelve participants and a trained mentor.  Through study, prayer, reflection, and vigorous dialogue EFM groups move toward a new understanding
of the fullness of God's kingdom.

The program is open to all committed seekers of insight into how we came to be the church we are. Participants need not be members of Emmanuel Middleburg nor even Episcopalians. What is required is a healthy interest in deepening one's understanding of the life of Christ and the subsequent founding of Christianity. The reward is
enriched ministry to others. The reward is enriched ministry to others.
