Bishops Visit

We had a marvelous visit on first Advent, November 27, with Bishop David Colin Jones,
Suffragen (an assisting bishop) Bishop of the Diocese of Virginia, and “guardian angel” of
Emmanuel for quite a number of years. Bishop Jones has been attentive to and supportive
of this congregation and its leadership and we will miss him when he retires at the January
2012 Annual Council of the Diocese.

Bishop Jones used the opportunity of the Adult Forum to tell us we have all the gifts we
need to carry out the work God has given us to do for this community and the world. He
spoke about the joy, serendipity, and successful implementation people experience when
they are doing what God has called and gifted them to do. We continue to ponder not only
the Bishop’s teaching but also his generous, gentle example of servant leadership.
