HISTORY OF THE CHRISTMAS SHOP
The Woman's Auxiliary of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Middleburg started the Christmas Shop in 1948 with a double purpose. Being predominantly country women they realized how tedious and time consuming shopping in the nearby, or distant cities, could be. The first idea was to bring the country Christmas shopper an early, hand selected assortment of gifts from rare shops, all under one roof (malls were not heard of back then). The second purpose, merging with the first, was to make as much money as they could, in an attractive way, for the Auxiliary's far-flung benefits.
We wish to thank all our wonderful friends without whose invaluable help The Christmas Shop would not be celebrating its 62nd year.
